NorEaster in Newport Harbor

DSC02198During a good, strong part of the NorEaster yesterday I watched these guys head out for a sail, then return a couple hours later, sans their dodger. I bet it was an exciting sail, and probably a lot of fun, but not altogether wise. The boat is owned by this bareboat company, and is a Beneteau 42 named Summer Dreams. Hopefully it wasn’t a charter.

DSC02205Here’s what the anemometer on the top of Elvis‘ rig showed as they were returning from their great adventure. The top windspeed happened Sunday night, when I saw a gust of 45. Sustained was a solid 30 for a good part of the afternoon and evening.
