I race with a great group of guys out of Ida Lewis YC, in Newport all Spring, Summer, and Fall. Earle Stubbs (Stubby), owns the boat, and Jim Estes and Bill Rommel and I crew for him. We spent a good part of the morning setting up the boat outside Stubby’s house, and splashed it at Sail Newport this afternoon. It all went well, and by 1:00 pm we were sitting on the deck at Ida Lewis enjoying a cleansing ale and talking about the season to come. If I ever have enough $$, I’ll buy Lisa from Stubby, but only when he’s ready to end his decades-long ownership.
