Self-Unloading Bulker Explained

Great image of how a self-unloading bulkship works.

Another big bulker joined the fleet in the Jamestown Anchorage in the East passage of Narragansett Bay this evening, the 738-foot Sophie Oldendorff.  We could hear her foghorn blowing as she inched towards her anchorage, and tracked her progress, and the progress of Northeast Pilot IV, picking up the pilot who brought the Sophie in, on my AIS antenna and MacENC. Out of curiosity, I went to the website for the Oldendorff‘s company, CSI International, and found this great cutaway drawing of how a self-unloading bulker works. Cool stuff.
